Long Beach Grand Prix

Every year in April, Long Beach plays host to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.  The event lasts through the weekend and is good fun.  In addition to the main race they generally feature a celebrity race and a drifting race.  I know Long Beach is technically not Orange County, but it's our close neighbor, and at less than 30 minutes from most or the county it's no big deal to head North for a day or a weekend.  Beware, tickets to the Long Beach Grand Prix are not cheap, especially if you want a reserved seat.  Also consider the parking expenses when budgeting your trip.

From their website:
Fast. Family. Fun.

….it’s all there at the 37th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 15-17!

The high-powered IZOD IndyCar Series features Helio Castroneves, Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti and Graham Rahal chasing down defending race champion Ryan Hunter-Reay. Your favorite film, TV and sports stars will duel in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race.

And, four more races – the Tequila Patrón American LeMans Series Race, Drifting, Firestone Indy Lights and SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Championships - guarantee a full weekend of wheel-to-wheel action.

The free Auto Club Lifestyle Expo and Green Power Prix-View will take family fun to a new level. Along with continuous entertainment and more than 100 exhibitors showcasing the latest products for your active lifestyle, we’ve added an exciting aerial Zip Line, electric-powered, you-drive-‘em race cars for kids and a rock climbing wall, as well as wild BMX and skateboarding demonstrations. And, the Kid’s Zone is loaded with action sports, computer games, simulators and much more.

More free fun? You can enjoy TWO concerts in the Tecate Light “Cool Zone” – Fiesta Friday and Saturday Rock-N-Roar. Soak up the unique Long Beach seaside atmosphere in Club Patrón or one of the Tecate Cantinas located around the circuit. And, see some of the world’s most impressive machinery at Sunday’s Mothers Polishes Exotic Car Corral.
